MY LOCAL WAY OF CHOOSING
Start with your days, not the hotel lobby
If I were helping a friend book Iloilo for the first time, I would ask where they expect to spend most of their day. A beautiful room is still a poor choice if every dinner, museum visit and evening walk means another long ride.
Mandurriao is the easy modern base. City Proper makes sense for old Iloilo and central sightseeing. Molo gives you a little more neighborhood character, while Jaro works well for a slower, history-focused stay.
What to check before you book
Daily convenience
Look for nearby breakfast, dinner, groceries and easy transport. Those little conveniences become important by the third day.
Trip logistics
For early island or southern-Iloilo departures, ask about luggage storage, early breakfast and arranging a ride.
Hotels, budget stays and longer visits
Hotels are the simplest choice when you want reception support and predictable facilities. Budget rooms can be excellent when you mainly need a clean place to sleep, but check the exact location rather than judging by the nightly rate alone.
For several nights, practical extras become more valuable: laundry, a work-friendly corner, a small kitchen, parking or a neighborhood where you can easily grab breakfast. That is the kind of detail that can make an ordinary Iloilo stay feel much easier.
