Iloilo Travel Information

Practical Iloilo travel information for getting from the airport into the city, moving between neighborhoods, using local transport and planning day trips.

Modern Iloilo is not the whole story

Iloilo has a modern business district, but the city also has an older commercial and civic core. City Proper carries much of Iloilo’s older commercial and civic story, while Mandurriao shows the city’s newer business side.

That distinction matters because the city is easiest to enjoy when you understand how its older river-and-port history sits beside newer districts such as Mandurriao.

Airport to Iloilo City

Iloilo International Airport is outside the city center, so decide how you want to handle the first transfer before you land. A taxi or arranged private transfer is the easiest choice with luggage. Airport vans or other shared options can be useful when available, but confirm the current pickup point and fare.

Taxi

Simple door-to-door option, especially for families or late arrivals.

Airport van / shared ride

Often useful for a lower-cost transfer, but check the current route and city drop-off point.

Private transfer

Convenient when you already know your hotel and want to go straight there.

Getting around the city

Taxis and ride-hailing are easiest when you are crossing districts. Jeepneys are part of everyday Iloilo and can be useful once you know the route. For a first trip, ask hotel staff or a local about the correct jeepney before boarding rather than guessing from a map.

For sightseeing, group nearby places together. A City Proper morning, a Molo afternoon or a Mandurriao evening usually makes more sense than zig-zagging across town.

Money and small practicalities

Keep some Philippine pesos with you. Hotels and larger businesses are more likely to accept cards, while markets, small food stops and some transport situations are easier with cash.

For festival weekends and busy travel periods, book your hotel earlier. For boat trips, confirm the current operator and schedule before leaving the city because routes and departure arrangements can change.

One piece of advice I would actually follow

Do not schedule every hour. Leave space for traffic, weather, lunch that takes longer than expected, or simply finding a place you want to stay a little longer.
